TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Singing is a divine gift that we all possess. Much like a snowflake, each voice is uniquely different. My approach to teaching involves a well-rounded understanding of the person and their own particular goals as it pertains to the voice. This direction leads to developing the singer’s core sound and unleashes their authentic voice. I am of the mind that singing is a vulnerable experience that is most effectively achieved with the synergy of the mind, body, and soul.
As a vocal pedagogue, I believe that healthy singing is good singing. What is “healthy singing?” Healthy singing is achieved by developing a proprioceptive awareness of the anatomical functions that make up your unique voice. It doesn’t benefit a student to sacrifice function for sound. We sing to communicate, we sing to express, we sing for fun! We can’t do any of that if our voice is fatigued or injured.
With over a decade of experience teaching students of varying ages and levels, I have learned that the discovery of one’s vocal capabilities is a journey. Never a destination. This journey of discovery takes time, consistency, and dedication but it is oh so rewarding. My goal as a voice teacher is to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment whereby students feel empowered to explore their vocal abilities. I aim to assist my students in achieving their personal goals by providing foundational techniques that promote a healthy vocal mechanism. I’ve utilized the knowledge and experience that I have accumulated over the years and developed an approach and methodology that is effective, sustainable, and liberating. Contact me to find out more.
